N8DNX and the Stutsmanville Repeater Complex

News and Timely Information

This is where I try to keep you up to date on what's happening with myself and, more importantly, with Ham Radio in Northern Michigan. If you find things here to be a bit old, assume that I'm overloaded with work, family, fixing radios, or whatever.

If you find things here to be blatantly wrong, libelous or otherwise so damaging that a correcting simply can't wait, please write to me at corrections@n8dnx.org. If you'd simply like to have something posted here, please write to me at post-this-for-me-please@n8dnx.org. Or if you want to, you can write to me at any E-Mail address that ends with "@n8dnx.org" and I'll get it.  :)

11/18/2008 - IRLP Node Back in Operation

The IRLP node for the repeaters at Stutsmanville is back in operation as of this past weekend. Node #4450 has been down for some time due to problems with the 5.8 GHz 10 Mb/s Internet connection from Petoskey. Those problems have now been corrected and some new equipment has been installed that should be more reliable.

In addition to providing IRLP for the W8GQN, N8DNX, and KO8P repeaters at Stutsmanvile, the IRLP computer at the site also provides a range of other information services. Those services include the ARRL Audio New and other audio news services, current propagation reports, local weather, and solar flare warnings and status. Please see the documentation in this site under "Repeaters", "User Manual". There is also a "Quick Reference" manual for the repeater system under "Repeaters".

One other item of note is that we decided to end phone service to the repeater site. Since most Hams now also have Cell Phones, use of the autopatch had dropped significantly. It was no longer practical to keep the phone service in place for what amounted to an average of less than one phone call per month.
